Air Tractor

Air Tractor- Olney, Texas

Air Tractor designs and produces the most extensive product line for agriculture aircraft. All planes are manufactured in Olney, Texas. Due to substantial growth in demand, Air Tractor needed to expand their production facilities. James Lane Mechanical was chosen as their mechanical contractor. JLM engineers designed the HVAC system for the new 55,000 square foot addition which utilized a chilled water and heating water strategy. Air handlers were strategically placed throughout the facility to promote even air distribution for all conditioned spaces, and also placement selections were to not impede the flow of the manufacturing production. The end result is a state of the art facility that we are proud to put our name on.

Altus AFB 317 Solar Thermal

Altus Air Force Base Building 317 (Solar Inn) – Altus, Oklahoma

The Solar Inn needed replacement and upgrade of the solar thermal system that was first installed in the 1980’s. James Lane Mechanical served as the designer, engineer, and plumbing contractor for this project while working with the Corps of Engineers. JLM provided the design, load calculation to determine the appropriate number of panels needed, selected the storage tank and pumps and reconnected the system to the existing domestic hot water system. JLM was proud to restore solar thermal energy to the Solar Inn without disrupting operations of the facility.

James Lane Mechanical provided turn-key fire protection service for the North Texas VA Hospital in Dallas, Texas. A significant portion of the existing wet pipe sprinkler system utilized CPVC piping that was deteriorating and no longer met hospital code requirements for fire suppression system. JLM replaced all CPVC sprinkler pipe with schedule 40 steel pipe throughout the hospital. All work was performed after normal business hours as to not interrupt daily operation of the facility, and the sprinkler system was returned to 100% operation during occupied hours each day. The project was completed ahead of schedule, to the delight of a very satisfied customer.

Fort Bliss Health and Dental Clinic

Fort Bliss Health and Dental

James Lane Mechanical partnered with a design/build team and were awarded the construction of a new Health and Dental Clinic at Fort Bliss Army Post in El Paso, Texas. Services provided by JLM were mechanical, plumbing, medical gas, medical vacuum, and fire protection. The project was designed to meet LEED Silver requirements. An aggressive 400 day construction schedule to complete the 40,000 square foot facility offered many challenges, however, the project was completed on time and was a huge success for the Corps of Engineers, design team and construction team.

Scurry County Courthouse

James Lane design build team was chosen to provide new HVAC system for the Scurry County Courthouse. James Lane engineers carefully zoned the building for enhanced comfort control. We developed a hybrid heating system that utilized both direct gas fired heat and hydronic heat in effort to provide the best heat source while maintaining the building aesthetics. Method of cooling would be split DX condensing units. A DDC control system was also installed to enhance overall energy management of the HVAC system. Total operating cost reduced by more than 50%. These gains were the result of creative solutions to work around the solid granite walls that surround the original courthouse building. The walls proved to be challenging to find solutions for proper ventilation, but JLM’s creativity persevered and the project was a complete success.

Sheppard AFB Building 624 and 884

Sheppard AFB 624 and 884 Central Plant Expansion, Wichita Falls, TX

James Lane Mechanical was awarded a design build project to expand the chilled water capacity of two central plants at Sheppard Air Force Base. The additional chilled water capacity would be used to provide cooling to multiple surrounding building by means of distributing chilled water utilizing direct buried pipe. By utilizing chilled water produced at the central plant in lieu of chilled water produced at each building via air-cooled chillers, energy savings of 40% were instantaneous. This project included adding one 600 ton centrifugal chiller, one 600 ton cooling tower, multiple distribution pumps with VFDs, and an upgrade to the DDC energy management system. Many challenges were faced with the distribution of buried chilled water pipe due to interference with existing utilities throughout the base. However the project was completed successfully and on time with minimal disruptions to all facilities.

Sheppard AFB ENJJPT

Sheppard Air Force Base – Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training, Wichita Falls, Texas

The Sheppard Air Force Base – Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT) is a truly unique facility. It is the only Euro-NATO Pilot Training base in the world. Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, is the home of this program and needed a new facility to accommodate the training of jet pilots from across the globe. This was design/build contract to construct the 40,000 square foot facility with LEED Silver accreditation. James Lane Mechanical and the mechanical engineering staff served as consultants to the design team throughout the development of the project. As construction began, JLM provided mechanical, plumbing and fire protection service. The United States Corps of Engineers oversaw and managed the construction process. The walls were constructed with ICF technology, insulated concrete foam walls, and Sheppard Air Force Base was the first US AFB with a facility built using ICF wall construction.

Many challenges were overcome with careful planning, coordination of trades and just in time arrivals, allowing construction to complete within an aggressive schedule. Our Euro-NATO friends and neighbors celebrated at a truly unique ribbon cutting ceremony.

North Texas State Hospital

James Lane Mechanical was selected to perform a design build project for the North Texas State Hospital to update their degrading central energy steam plant and damaged distributions steam pipe throughout the campus. James Lane engineers determined the best method for their heating upgrade would be to decentralize the central steam plant and install high efficiency hydronic boilers at each building. This approach would require new underground natural gas distribution system to each building, but compared to repairing the damaged steam pipe buried underground, the distribution of gas piping was easily justified.

In addition to upgrading the heating system, the cooling system was also in need of upgrade. Each building was already equipped with an air cooled chiller, however many chillers had exceeded their life cycle and were in need of replacement. These chillers identified as needing replaced were done so with high efficient chillers. Many air handlers were also in need of replacement, and all air handlers were in need of heating coil replacement due to the conversion from steam to hot water. All work was performed to minimize outages at each building, and completed on schedule.

United Regional

Reconfigured chilled water and condensing water piping from primary – secondary system to variable primary system. Replaced all chilled water and condensing water piping and pumps. Added VFDs to all pumps and cooling towers. Enhanced capacity of flat plate heat exchanger. Added 700 ton variable speed centrifugal chiller to grow total plant capacity to 2,700 tons. Integrated control system. Total central plant energy consumption reduced by 45-50%.
